Dr. Seuss, 101 Dalmatians & More

We had a very exciting week in Kindergarten!
Take a look below for details on all of the fun things we have been up to.

Our Journey's Focus Wall for the week.

Weekly Journey's Home Letter
In Literacy Lab this week, I worked with students on reading basic guided reading stories and answering questions about what we read.
We also read books to practice silent E words.
Students worked very hard on their iReady lessons as well.
Mrs. Coberly worked with students to read a simple book and write their own sentences to finish the book.
For Fun Friday, Mrs. Coberly read the story Jack and the Beanstalk then students worked on coloring the pictures to go along with the book.
For the next Fun Friday, students will cut out the pictures and work on retelling the story.
To celebrate Dr. Seuss's birthday and Read Across America Day, we read lots of Dr. Seuss books! Here are just a few.
We read Green Eggs and Ham, then made a list of rhyming words. Students made their own page of something they would eat with something that it rhymes with.
We will use these to make a class book!

We also read The Cat in the Hat and students wrote about how they would get the cat to leave their house. They had some pretty creative answers! Below are just a few.
These will go in the student's portfolios.
I also added some fun Dr. Seuss workstations for students this week. They surveyed their friends on what their favorite Dr. Seuss book was, colored the eggs to match the color word, and completed a connect the dots by counting to make a cat in the hat.
We also worked on a March literacy and math paper together.
Students worked on writing their numbers for 3rd quarter assessments.
Miss Dupont came to work with the students this week while I completed 3rd Quarter testing. Students completed a rainbow of themselves with their favorite things.
Miss Dupont also completed a directed drawing of a leprechaun with the students.
She gave them step by step instructions and they had to follow them to make their leprechaun.
They did great and are now hanging up in the hallway!
We finished reading our chapter book 101 Dalmatians so we watched the movie to compare them. Students really enjoyed this movie! They voted on our next chapter book and chose Stuart Little.
We also had our popcorn party that students earned!
Students have been working on a new goal to pass 195 lessons in the next 2 weeks.
The class voted and chose to work towards earning lemonade.

Our school has been working to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
We will be collecting money until March 20th and the class that earns the most will get a pizza party!
On Monday we also had our Spring pictures.

Our friend Autumn was one of the weekly tootle prize winners this week, congrats Autumn!
Thanks for checking in. Have a great week!

Mrs. Brittany Garrabrant
