Week of January 3rd

We had such an awesome week back from break! It was nice to hear about all the fun things the kids did over break. The week was full of learning and fun. Take a look below for more details on our week.

Our class earned the restroom trophy this week!

We also started reading our next chapter book together, 101 Dalmatians. They love it so far!

For our math lessons this week we worked on breaking apart numbers and different combinations of how to make them as well.

We also started learning about our 3-D shapes this week!

(sphere, cylinder, cube, cone)

On Tuesday, Mrs. Phillip came to do a lesson with the class about feelings.

In Literacy Lab, students took their reading and math iReady diagnostic assessments. These help us to know how to change our instruction to help each student. They all took their time and tried their best! They will take them one last time at the end of the year to see how much progress they have made.
For our Fun Friday, students made a name snowman by following Mrs. Ball's step by step directions.
We also read some winter books; "Where is the snowflake?" and "Make a snowman"
We learned the sight words; one, two, three, four.
For writing this week, students wrote about things they did over winter break as well as drew a picture of themselves playing in the snow. We worked on adding labels to our picture as well as writing a few words or a sentence at the bottom to tell what is happening in our picture.
On Friday we celebrated the New Year since we don't have specials and had more time. We started by saying the months of the year and writing the beginning letter of each month.
We also did some New Year's patterns.
And highlighted all of the number 22's.
Then we counted down from 20-0 and traced the numbers as we counted.
We had some juice and did a "cheers" with our neighbors to a great year!
I sent home the January homework and reading log as well.
Thanks for checking in this week. Stop back next week to see what fun things we are up to!
