Penguin Projects and Preparing For Our Open House

We had a busy week getting ready for our open house on Friday!! We had a lot to do to get our penguin habitats ready! We had to paint each habitat appropriate colors for the different types of penguins. For example, since the Emperor penguin lives in Antarctica, we painted everything white for snow/ice but the Galapagos penguin lives in volcanic rock deposits so we painted it dark gray/ black. Take a look at us painting our habitats and its details, making rocks to add to it, making icebergs and adding snow/ice.
We also finished working on our presentation projects. This is the only picture I was able to get over the course of this busy week! We had two groups choose to make a poster (Macaroni & Little penguin groups), two groups chose to make a big book (Emperor & Galapagos penguin groups), and one group chose to make a brochure (Chinstrap penguin group).
On Monday, we painted our penguins in art class. We used non-fiction books to help us make them accurate and use appropriate colors.
Here are some of their finished penguins. They all turned out so great!
Mrs. Atkin's class learned about 4 polar animals: Lynx, Penguins, Narwhals, and Leopard Seals. They also created habitats and presentation projects and on Friday they shared the information they had learned with our class. We were so amazed with their work, they did a great job!
We will be giving our presentations to other classes on Monday to share the information we have learned about the five types of penguins we have studied. We spent some time on Friday practicing in order to make sure we were ready!
Check out the next post to see pictures from our Penguin Open House on Friday!
Thanks to everyone who was able to come support our hard work. We hope to see you all at our next open house!
Have a great week!
Mrs. Brittany Garrabrant
