Mrs. Scherch, Conferences & Pumpkin Pie!

This week we were excited to welcome Mrs. Scherch (pronounced like search) to our classroom! She shared some pictures and information about herself with the students and we made a web to show what we learned about her. We then drew stories about the information she shared to create an All About Me book for her to take home.
We finished our blue color mosaic and are now beginning to work on our green mosaic.
We had 2 friends in our class who sold enough coupon books from our fundraiser to be able to participate in the money machine and lunch limo ride to McDonalds.
First they got to stick their hands in the money machine to collect as much money as they could. They were excited that they got to keep the money!
Then they got to ride in a limo to McDonalds and have lunch with our principal, Ms. Hall.
We have also begun reading Charlie and the Chocolate Factory as our class read aloud story.
In order to prepare for conferences, we updated our achievement rings to show our 1st quarter achievements. Each bead stands for a different achievement. For example, if they can count to 100 they get a heart bead, etc. They were all excited to be able to earn beads to put on their rings. They can't wait to share them with you this week!
We finished our O and R letter cards. We are working on finishing up our I card as well.
We put up the names of friends that begin with the letter cards that we have added to our word wall under the correct letter. We will continue to add names under the correct letters as we add the rest of our letter cards.
We also added some of our sight words that we have mastered under the correct letter as well.
Also in preparation for conferences, we updated the students portfolios with their best work. They looked at their work in our exploration journals and chose 2 of their best documentation pieces to share with you during conferences.
We also went through our writing folders to choose our best stories to share with you as well.
One of the class' questions about pumpkins when we were creating our KWL chart was "How do you make pumpkin pie?" I found a recipe for an easy no bake pumpkin pie using only a graham cracker crust, pumpkin pie filling, cream cheese, cool whip, and cinnamon. The whip cream was to add on top if they wanted it!
We had to use our strong muscles to mix since the cream cheese made it a little more difficult!
On Friday, we enjoyed our pumpkin pie! The students were really excited and enjoyed it very much!
Say, "Pumpkin Pie"!

Thanks for checking in this week! We are looking forward to meeting with you this week for our student-led conferences on Monday & Tuesday of this week. The students do not have school on Monday, November 10th (conferences all day) or Wednesday, November 12th (QPT day).

Have a great week!
Mrs. Brittany Garrabrant
