Name Webs, Tissue Paper Pumpkins & More

After reading Charlotte's Web and watching the movie we discussed the events in sequential order. We came up with 12 events and paired up in groups of 2 or 3 to illustrate each one. They had to work together in order for each member to contribute to the illustration and make it accurate to their specific event. Take a look at our 12 events below.
#1. Fern falls in love with a baby pig.
 #2. Uncle Homer buys Wilbur
#3. Wilbur feels so lonely he can't eat.
 #4. Wilbur meets Charlotte.
#5. The sheep told Wilbur he will be killed.
#6. Charlotte promises to save Wilbur.
 #7. Charlotte spins "Some Pig".
#8. Wilbur goes to the fair.
 #9. Wilbur wins a medal.
#10. Templeton saves the egg sac.
 #11. Charlotte dies.
 #12. Charlotte's children are born.
We did a craft where we made webs with our names in them. We used black paper and chalk to make the web and gold glitter glue to write our names in the web just like Charlotte did.
We continued to learn through our I Wonder stations as well as math and literacy workstations. I added this "Can You Build It" challenge book to the engineering area. It has different structures to help inspire the students to try and build them with our materials.
We are continuing to work on developing our small hands muscles by practicing lacing and tying shoes. They also used clothes pins to pick up pom poms and put them in the matching color slot in the ice cube tray. We also practiced tracing lines to strengthen our finger muscles.
In our look closer area we continued to work on mixing colors and we added a listening challenge. There were different materials in film containers and the students had to shake them and guess what was inside.
Braxton was using the water bottle lids to practice making sight words such as orange & is. Soleil was documenting different materials in the science area like a feather, ladybug and star fish.
We also continued working on our blue mosaic and we are getting close to being finished!
We also earned our orange color book and practiced reading it with the song.
In order to prepare for conferences, we have been updating our data folders.
We used orange and green tissue paper to create pumpkins for our bulletin board. On the next post I will show you them all hung up. They all did a great job!
In the science area we cut open pumpkins and gourds and the students took out the seeds and insides. We compared the size of the seeds from the small pumpkins and gourds to the seeds from our large pumpkins. They enjoyed exploring the pumpkins further.
Our finished carved Jack-O-Lantern. Carson was documenting it in the science area.
I took home our pumpkin seeds and cooked them. They enjoyed tasting them and most of our friends liked them. They thought they tasted like popcorn! Yum!
We also read "Pumpkin Seeds" and added the correct number and seeds to each page. This was good practice for guided reading as well as learning our number words.
We read the story "Pumpkin Circle" and watched the movie which discussed the life cycle of a pumpkin. It was very informative and helpful in understanding the life cycle of a pumpkin.
Braydon's birthday was Thursday so we sang happy birthday to him in sign language and he shared his yummy fruit snacks with the class.
We have been earning buckeyes as a class in order to try and earn a class reward. Since we have 26 students in our class, we have to earn 26 buckeyes before we can earn a reward. We only have 2 more to earn so we decided to vote on what we wanted to do for our reward. Our top 4 choices were dance party, ice cream party, cookie party, and stuffed animal party. The winner was ice cream party! I usually don't give sweets in class but since this was something they have earned and wanted as a class, we will be having ice cream as soon as we can earn our last 2 buckeyes.
At the ECC we don't have Halloween parties but we did have pajama day on Friday. The students were so excited to wear their pajamas to school! Amir and his family sent in popcorn balls and apple cider for us to enjoy as a treat. They also sent in goodie bags for each student to take home. Jay'Veon and his family sent in candy for each friend to take home as well. It was very thoughtful of you all to share with the class and the students were all very excited! It was a fun pajama day!
Also, I saw our leaf hunt picture on the front page of the West Carrollton district page!
Thanks for checking in! Have a great week!
