Countdown M-I, Library, Performances, Etc.

We continued our End of the Year Alphabet Countdown with the letters M-I this week! Monday was M day so we made mustaches on a stick. After we made our mustaches together, more material was put in the art area for students to make their own mustaches. Below Braydon is showing off his mustache that he made. Betsy came to school ready for M day wearing a mustache, a mustache necklace, and a mustache shirt as well!
For L day, the students wrote letters to their first grade teachers. They told them their name, how old they are, how excited they were to meet them, some of the things they wanted to learn about, and so much more. Take a look at some of their letters below.
Wednesday was K day and we did Karaoke! This was the day that the kids were looking forward to the most and they really enjoyed themselves. They got to choose if they wanted to sing with themselves, do a duet with another friend or sing with a group of three. After they chose their groups, they chose their songs and we found the video on the KidzBop. I only had two microphones so if they chose to be a group of three, they had to share the microphones. Some students chose to sing the words and some students chose to lip sync the words. I enjoyed watching them sing, dance and enjoy the music.
Thursday was J day and Mr. Doyle did a jump rope activity with the kids. We also had ice pops for I day on Friday before our poetry cafe but I forgot to get pictures!
We also took a walking field trip to the library this week. It started pouring down rain when we were almost at the library so that is why their hair is wet in the pictures! We started off our visit with a story read by Ms. Gina, the children's librarian at the West Carrollton Library.
Then she gave us a tour to show us what we could find and where to find it at the library. The students were excited to learn that we could even find comic books!
Then they got to look through the shelves and pick one book that they found interesting.
Betsy was excited to find one of the sports books that we read during our sports study!
Ms. Gina let the students check out the books on her library card.
Half of the students went outside to the book drop and got to return their books.
The other half of the students were watching in the book drop room. They were so excited to watch the books come in and drop on the floor!
During literacy lab this week Mrs. Ball had lots of fun activities related to the Laura Numeroff book series.
We also had the cub scouts leader come and talk to the boys about cub scouts.
Mrs. Springer brought her acapella group "First Impressions" to sing for the ECC students. They sang and danced and the students really enjoyed their performance.
Mrs. Gore's class learned 4 Reader's Theatre performances and shared them with us this week. Below are pictures from Little Red Riding Hood.
The mama duck's eggs hatched this week! Monday we got to see her sitting on the nest with the babies in it but on Tuesday, they were gone! The students were so sad to see her go but glad they got to see her and the babies.
Check out our garden so far! Our peas & green beans are growing so fast and we hope to be able to taste some of them before the end of the school year!
Thanks for stopping by! Have a great week!

Mrs. Brittany Garrabrant
