Alphabet Countdown E-I, Caterpillar Release & More!

What a fun week we had in Kindergarten! The students observed our butterflies and then we released them, we also wrote about them in our butterfly observations books. We celebrated the letters E-I in our alphabet countdown, shared our Alphabet Memories books with our Preschool Reading Buddies, received our class poetry books, worked on our writing, continued to watch our plants grow, worked on respecting personal space for our Teach Town lessons, and more! Take a look below for more details on our busy and fun week here in Kindergarten!

Our caterpillars came out of their chrysalis' over the weekend and the students were so excited to see beautiful butterflies! After the students observed them, we released them and set them free.
Our last butterfly didn't want to leave, it sat on my fingers for a good five minutes and the students really enjoyed getting to observe it up close!
We continued to document what we noticed about our caterpillars and we wrote, "They are butterflies". The students also wrote things like, "They can fly. They are free." and "They are beautiful." and "One wanted to stay.". Then we put the life cycle of a butterfly in order.
For our Alphabet Countdown, we enjoyed exercise and eat a healthy snack (apple slices & carrots) on Monday.
On Tuesday, for the letter F day, the students brought in their favorite stuffed animals to share with the class. Even students who forgot to bring their stuffed animals, still shared with the class.
Wednesday was our letter G day. The students wore green and talked about what they wanted to be when they grew up! Below you can see some of the students' responses. The "when I grow up I want to be a...." paper will be sent to the high school and kept to give to the students when they graduate!
For the letter H day, we watched a video to teach the students how to say Hello in 30 different languages. They thought it was very cool!
For our I day, we enjoyed ice pops!
On Friday, the students shared their Alphabet Memories Countdown Book with their preschool reading buddies.
On Wednesday, we received our class poetry books and the students were thrilled! The students will continue to practice reading their poems in order to be ready to share them with you all at our Poetry Cafe. I will be delivering poetry books to those of you who ordered them after our poetry cafe is over. The students did such a great job. Our poetry book turned out amazing and I am so proud of them!
We have been practicing writing about our opinions. The students pick which one is their favorite and write two sentences telling me what they picked and why. Bentley wrote, "I like caterpillars. They turn into butterflies." We also did a favorite pet paper but I forgot to get a picture! The students will continue to practice writing 2 sentences at a time so they can be a stage 4 writer.
We have also continued to watch our plants grow. Some of the pots have so many sprouts and the students have really enjoyed watching them grow!
Our Teach Town lessons focused on Respecting Personal Space this week. Here is the comic strip from the weekly video.
We continued to read more stories about dinosaurs such as the one on the left. We also read many stories about social skills such as the amazing story on the right, Even Superheroes Have Bad Days). It is a great book and I highly recommend it!
We read and colored a book about 2-D & 3-D shapes for the students to take home and practice.
The students only have 2 more buckeyes to earn in order to earn a whole class reward. Since we are so close, we voted on what they wanted as a reward. As you can see, they chose to have slushies as their reward once they earn their last 2 buckeyes.
Mrs. Boxley worked with the students on decorating a bag for the students to put their Mother's Day presents in.
Thanks for stopping by to see what we have been up to. Check back next week to see what we are up to next. Have a great week!

Mrs. Brittany Garrabrant
