Homecoming Parade, Making Orange, Environmental Print Alphabet & More!

We had another busy week here in Kindergarten! We worked on so many literacy skills in Literacy Lab this week, learned about our last 4 friends as they shared their treasure blocks, learned about the letters L & A, drew step by step drawings of characters from Mo Willems books, enjoyed some new math and literacy workstations, had fun at our Homecoming Parade, did a color mixing experiment to make the color orange, documented our experiment and shared it with our Preschool Reading Buddies, finished our green mosaic and started on our orange mosaic, started making our environmental print alphabet, read more Mo Willems stories, and more. Take a look below to see more details about the fun that we have been having in our classroom this week!

In Literacy Lab this week, we worked on the letters M & P.
Mrs. Arnold is practicing tracing the letter M with a group of students.
The students also worked on the laptops in the program iready that our district uses.
They worked on matching upper and lowercase letters.
Ms. Roland worked with students to practice reading simple letter books and listing things that begin with those letters.
I worked with students to read letter books, sorting pictures by beginning sound, and drawing pictures of things that begin with those letters.
The students enjoyed using witch fingers to help remind our pointer fingers to point to the words as we read!
We learned about our last 4 friends as they shared their treasure blocks.
We learned about the letter L & A and the students drew pictures for our letter cards.
Mrs. Boxley worked with the students to follow step by step directions to draw characters from Mo Willems books that we have read including the Pigeon, Naked Mole Rat, Piggie & Elephant. They look great but I am going to display them at literacy night so you will have to wait and see how they turned out! I will post them on next week's blog for those of you who aren't able to make it to Literacy Night.
Some new literacy stations:
Practicing writing numbers (Left),
Matching upper and lowercase letters (Right)
Practicing writing the letter M & P & cutting (Left)
Alphabet Bingo (Right)
Gluing marshmallows on the letter M & pieces of paper on the letter P.
Thank you to everyone who came out to our Homecoming Parade, we had so much fun!
The students earned their green color books to take home and practice reading them.
We also finished our green mosaic. I forgot to get a picture though!
Since the students learned how to spell the color green, we did a color mixing experiment this week to make the color orange and learned how to spell it! Before we did our experiment, the students acted like scientists and predicted what would happen when we mixed red and yellow together. Then we drew a circle on our paper and mixed the two colors together inside the circle.
After our experiment, we documented what we did and labeled the color words to go with it!
We began working on our orange mosaic!
On Friday, we shared our Green Lemonade & our orange color mixing experiments with our Preschool Reading Buddies.
Using the environmental print that all of the students brought into school, we began to go through them and glue them on the letter poster that they begin with to make our Environmental Print Alphabet. After we finish, I will hang them up in our classroom.
The students have been working hard as a class to earn buckeyes for good behavior and compliments. We have 22 students in our class so when they earn 22 buckeyes together, they earn a whole class reward. Since they are only 3 buckeyes away, we decided to vote on what they wanted as their class reward. As you can see, they chose to have a Pajama day! I will keep you updated on when our pajama day will be after they earn it. It won't be this week and more than likely will be next week!
We completed another page in our interactive school rules book about staying in our seats and being safe while we are working.
We completed 2 more Teach Town lessons this week about Respecting Personal Space & Using a Quiet Voice Inside.
Here are just some of the Mo Willems books that we read this week, the students love them!
We are continuing to read Charlotte's Web together as a class as well. Please ask your child to tell you about what is happening in the book.
Important papers sent home this week:

We sent home the student handbook this week and you were supposed to sign the last page and return it to school saying that you received and read the handbook. If you have not already done so. please return it as soon as you can. Thank you!
Information about how to sign up for the app Bloomz so you are able to sign up for conferences. Our class code is PK2XBP. I will be sending out an invitation from the app this week to sign up for a conference time slot.
Information about our Literacy Night coming up this week. I hope to see you all there!
Another box tops paper for this month

Monday the September Homework & Reading Log were due. I included a sample completed of each so you can see what to do. For the homework, just cross them out as you complete them. A bingo will earn your child one prize from the treasure box and completing them all will earn them 2 treasures from the treasure box. For the reading log, color in a picture for every 15 minutes you read to your child or they read to you that month. It will only be accepted if it is all the way completed and all of the pictures are colored in. Please don't forget to have an adult sign both of the papers before they are turned in!

The October homework & Reading Log went home this week.
Thanks for checking in. Have a great week!

Mrs. Brittany Garrabrant
