Name Activities, Visitors, Green Lemonade & More!

We had another fun and busy week full of learning! We learned about five more of our friends who shared their treasure blocks, worked on name activities in Literacy Lab, started reading Charlotte's Web together, had picture day, listened to two visitors read to the class, learned two new letters ( S & D), made green lemonade and learned how to spell green, did two more Teach Town lessons, started reading books by Mo Willems & more. Take a look below for more details!

We learned about 5 more friends who shared their treasure blocks.
We only have 4 more friends to learn about!
In Literacy Lab, we worked in groups on various name activities that the students rotated through. Mrs. Arnold worked with the students on tracing their name, and making it using letter beads.
The students worked on making their name using Qtips & paint. They worked very hard to stay on the lines.
They also worked on gluing fruit loops to cover the letters of their name.
Using stamps to make their names.
We have begun reading Charlotte's Web together as a class. As we read, we discuss what is happening and I ask them many questions. Ask your child to tell you about what is happening!
Tuesday was picture day!
Wednesday one of my former students came to visit and read to our class. He attends Schnell so he is on fall break right now. His name is Killion and he is our friend Kayla's brother. He did a great job and the students enjoyed listening to him read to the class!
Thursday, another one of my former students, Isabella came to visit and read to the class as well.
She also made bracelets for all of the students!
We learned 2 new letters this week, made lists of words that begin with those sounds, and the students drew pictures for our letter cards. They turned out great!
Then they got to take home their letter books to practice reading them at home!
On Friday we did a fun science experiment, "Magic Lemonade".
The students had a glass of yellow lemonade and a blue ice cube. Together we dropped the blue ice cube into the glass of lemonade and watched what happened next!
They couldn't believe that it turned green!
We documented our experiment just like scientists do! Before we began our experiment, the students predicted what color they thought the lemonade was going to turn. Then we documented what actually happened!
We completed another page in our School Rules book about sitting Criss Cross Applesauce. I forgot to take a picture of a completed page!
The students worked hard to complete our yellow mosaic this week!
Friday we began working on the green mosaic after our experiment.
We completed 2 more of our Teach Town lessons this week as well.
Here are some of the books that we read this week.
I read some of these books to the class by Mo Willems (who is also my favorite author!) and the students LOVE them! They are so funny and they can't wait to read more of them. We will be doing an author study on Mo Willems.
Important papers sent home this week:
A second paper for our Family Scavenger Hunt if you hadn't returned the first one. Please return them this week if you haven't already done so, that way I can get an idea of how many people to expect.
Thanks for checking in. Stop back again next week to see what we are up to next!
Have a great week!

Mrs. Brittany Garrabrant
