Getting Ready for Valentine's & the 100th Day!

We had another fun but short week full of lots of learning! We earned the PE trophy, worked in our new Reader's Notebooks, and made birthday cards for Mrs. Boxley! We also did some Valentine's Day activities and books, started writing in our 100 Day book, started sharing our 100 item collection, and worked on making our 100 day necklaces. Students worked hard in Literacy Lab, participated in new workstations, started reading a new chapter book, and earned the last of their buckeyes for a class reward!
Take a look below for more details on our exciting week.

Mrs. Warner's class came to deliver the PE trophy to us this week and the students were so excited!
With the unexpected day off on Thursday, I forgot to get a picture of our focus wall so here is a picture from the book.
We started working in our new Reader's Notebook this week. We worked on our weekly sight words.
Reviewing the letter Ii sound.
Filling in sentences with missing 'wh' words & sounding out words with 'i' in them to match pictures.
Mrs. Boxley's birthday was this week so the students made birthday cards for her.
She loved them!
We also did a Valentine color hearts book.
And a Valentine color by sight word page where they had to read and color the sight words the correct colors.
We started making a 100 day book where we will be writing about different things with the number 100. We started the first page where students wrote about an object that they could lift 100 of.
We will finish the rest of our book this week!
Students brought in a collection of 100 items and we started sharing them with the class. Nolan read his 3 clues and then the other students guessed what they thought was in his bag, 100 dinosaurs!
Only a couple of students have shared so far, the rest will be sharing their collections this week!

Mrs. Boxley worked with students to help them make their 100 day necklaces using 100 fruit loops. The students will be wearing their necklaces on Friday during our 100th day of school celebration and then will be taking them home.
As always, students worked hard in Literacy Lab too! They unscrambled letters and made words to match the pictures. They also matched the letters to the picture with that beginning sound.
Mrs. Ball worked with students on basic guided reading skills.
Students reviewed the letter Pp and sight words.
Students worked with me on reading guided reading books and documenting the information we read.
They also did a sound sort for pictures with the endings -am, -ad, -an, and -at.
We also added new workstations this week.
Below Traci & Ellie are reviewing letters & sight words by feeding the fish to the penguin.
James is using wooden phonics blocks to make and sound out different CVC words.
Maddie is filling in the missing number hearts.
She is also using valentine manipulatives to make various number sentences.
Wyatt & Johnny are participating in a scavenger hunt around the classroom. Students had to find one of the tens frame pictures, count how many were shown, and write the correct number next to the matching picture on the paper. The students really enjoyed these new workstations!
We started reading a new chapter book this week, 101 Dalmatians.
We also read Valentine's Day books.

Students also earned their last buckeyes this week and earned a class reward. When they voted, they chose to have a show & tell. We will be having ours this THURSDAY
Have your child bring their favorite toy or object to share with the class on Thursday!
