Groundhog's Day, Valentine's Day & More!

We had a busy week in Kindergarten full of learning and fun! We worked hard on our Journeys lesson, finished our first Reader's Notebook, wrote about the weather & made our alphabet card for the letter Bb. The students finished their Valentine's for their family and they will get to take them home next week! They also wrote about what love means to them, put their handprint in a Valentine poem for their portfolio, and colored a Valentine hearts book. We also watched Punxatawney Phil make his weather forecast and read both fictional and non-fictional stories about Groundhogs. Students also worked hard on their literacy skills in Literacy Lab and shared our work with our Preschool Reading Buddies. We also started getting ready for our 100th day of school, finished reading our chapter book Mr. Popper's Penguins, watched the movie, and more!
Take a look below for more details on our exciting week!

Our Journey's focus wall for the week.
Student's worked hard and finished our first Reader's Notebook. We will begin our second one on Monday. We worked hard on reviewing our sight words for the unit.
We also worked on words in the past.
We also reviewed the letters and sounds from the unit.
Students used the pictures to help sound out the words.
We also talked about what a complete sentence was and practiced writing our own.
This week we talked about the weather and students wrote about their favorite kind of weather as well as what the weather was doing that day.
Savannah wrote, "I like sun."
Anika wrote, "I love the sunny weather."
Johnny wrote, "The weather is rainy."
We focused on the letter B sound this week. First we made a list of things that begin with the letter B sound, then students drew pictures and we made our letter B alphabet card.
Students earned their letter B book and practiced reading it to their peers.
Students finished making their Valentine's for their families & will be taking them home next week.
We also talked about what love means to them and they wrote about it.
I will make their responses into a class book.
Here are a few of their responses:
Johnny- "I am playing my xbox"
Traci- "Ice Cream"
Maddie- "Playing Outside"
Brooklyn- "My family"
Savannah- "I am eating with my family"
James- "My mom"
My mom, Mrs. Boxley, came and helped the students make their handprints inside a Valentine poem. These will go in their portfolios.
We also read a Valentine's book "Little Hearts". Students had to read the words and color the hearts the appropriate color words.
Since Saturday was Groundhog's Day, on Monday we watched the video of Punxsutawney Phil making his weather forecast.
We also read stories about Groundhogs as well.
Students also worked hard on their literacy skills in Literacy Lab. Students worked with me on guided reading, answering comprehension questions, and picture sound sorts.
Students also worked on practicing sight words, matching uppercase and lowercase letters, and reviewing the letter Oo.
Students worked with Mrs. Ball on guided reading and picture sound sorts.
For Fun Friday in Literacy Lab, students worked on stamping their name and the alphabet.
They also worked on letter & number puzzles.
They worked together to sort pictures by beginning sounds.
On Friday, students shared their Valentine Hearts book and writing about what love means to them with their Preschool Reading Buddies.
We also began getting ready for our 100th day of school by making fruit loop necklaces with 100 fruit loops. These will take a while for us to make them all so we started early!
We finished reading our chapter book Mr. Popper's Penguins this week so we also watched the movie. The students loved it!
Of course they worked hard on their iReady lessons this week too, we are already over halfway to meeting our 2 week goal!
